Here’s a collection of links to other sites, guides, videos, etc. that I think are really helpful. If you have any suggestions for other links, or if I’ve linked you here and you’d rather not be, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and let me know!
Archives of Nethys
- Archives of Nethys – Yeah, this gets its own category. Here you can access the entirety of the 2e ruleset, completely free and official, forever. No more trawling through questionable wikidots. Don’t forget to check out the Player’s Guide section if you’re new!
Character Creators
- Pathbuilder2e – My personal favourite character creator, in both web and Android flavours. This makes character creation a cinch and works great as a live in-game sheet as well. Requires a one time payment (separately for web and Android) for some features, such as variant rules and companions.
- Wanderer’s Guide – I don’t use this one, but from what I hear it’s a little more newbie-friendly as it makes character creation more explicitly step-by-step. No payment required to use all the features, but you’re restricted to 6 saved characters unless you pay a monthly sub.
- Pathfinder Nexus – Still in beta (and the character creator is in closed alpha) at the time of writing, this website is effectively aiming to be the DnDBeyond of 2e. In fact, it’s made by most of the same people. It boasts a shiny UI and the creator is apparently very spiffy, according to those who have used it, but you do need to re-purchase books to own them on Nexus. On the plus side, each purchase gives you a free PDF on the Paizo site, so if you don’t own anything right now and want to start your collection, you may as well go for them on the Nexus first.
Homebrew
- Pathfinder Infinite – buy officially-approved homebrew directly from the creators, which I think is basically the equivalent of the DMsGuild for 5e?
YouTube
- KingOogaTonTon – I love this guy’s 7 Minute videos. They’re supremely helpful for giving people a quick introduction to certain mechanics in a simple, easy to understand fashion.
- How It’s Played – If you want more in-depth explainers, here’s your fella. His videos range from breaking down the mechanics of Stealth to obscure topics like “how does Risky Surgery work?”. If there’s something you’re confused about, chances are there’s a video on it here.
- GUST – The memes.
DISCORD
- r/pathfinder2e – despite the name, not strictly limited to the Reddit. This is probably the biggest 2e discord out there, and it’s often frequented by actual Paizo staff as well. Swing by and maybe you’ll catch Luis Loza dropping hints to the next release! Or you’ll just walk into another alignment argument. Who knows? That’s part of the fun. Say hi to our resident lore nerd Azarni when you drop in!
Guides and Resources
- Zenith Game’s Guide to the Guides – this regularly-updated resource collates links to guides as they are released, and will probably have a much more up to date collection than I will.
- Rednidedni’s Class Summary for New Players – A very nicely designed visual summary of every class, encapsulating their features, strengths, and roles.
- Rednidedni’s Combat Actions Cheat Sheet – Another banger of a resource, this gives you an easy way to remember the actions you have available to you in combat. Never waste another action on a -10 Strike again!
- TheWinkingWizard’s Character Creation Overview Infographic – A simple and straightforward graphic explaining the steps of character creation, ideal for new players.
- A Series of Dice-Based Events – a community hub for conversion of 1st Edition adventure paths to 2e. Wanna play Curse of the Crimson Throne in Second Edition? Here’s your spot. Don’t miss the Discord at the top of the linked page.
